Want to make MORE money on the side?!
I hope youâre doing well and thriving both in and outside of work!
In this weekâs edition of our newsletter, weâre diving into an exciting topic: side hustles for nurses.
We all know the healthcare field demands a lot from us, and while the work is fulfilling, we often seek financial flexibility, new passions, or even early retirement options. Thatâs where a side hustle can come into play!
I love side hustles for the reason that you are doing this on the side. The beauty of not relying on this as your main source of income takes out the pressure and also the desperation of making money. Instead, you are building something from a place of creativity while helping other people (monetizing is a bonus!)
So, why Consider a Side Hustle?
With our packed schedules, you might wonder why a side hustle is worth considering. Here are a few key reasons:
- Extra Income: Nursing is rewarding, but sometimes our paychecks donât stretch as far as weâd like. A side hustle can provide extra income for vacations, paying off debt, or even saving for an early retirement.
- Diversifying Your Income Streams: Relying on a single source of income, like your nursing job, can feel limiting. Having multiple income streams offers financial security.
- Explore New Passions: Maybe youâve always wanted to start a blog, teach others, or create products. Side hustles are a great way to pursue those dreams without leaving your nursing career behind.
- Flexible Options: Many side hustles can be done on your own schedule, allowing you to balance work, family, and personal time.
Side Hustle Ideas Perfect for Nurses
1. Freelance Writing or Blogging
Do you love writing? This has been a dream of mine since I was younger. To make money off of writing. I initially started my blog Nursing Flowsheet as a place to write my experiences in nursing and eventually became a personal finance blog. I started in 2018 and now, I just recently got it monetized through Mediavine! (hello passive income!)
Freelance writing for health publications or starting your own blog can be a great way to make money off your knowledge. It could be about anything you have interest in! You can write during your downtime or on your days off.
2. Telehealth Consulting
With the rise of telemedicine, some nurses are leveraging their expertise by offering consulting services online. You could provide telehealth services in areas like diabetes management, nutrition, or chronic illness support.
3. Tutoring or Mentoring Nursing Students
Nursing students are always looking for guidance, whether it's for exams or clinical practice. You can offer one-on-one tutoring or even start small group mentoring sessions. It's a fulfilling way to share your expertise and earn extra income.
4. Sell Handmade Goods or Crafts
Are you crafty? Nurses are known for their attention to detail, which is a perfect fit for creating and selling handmade products like jewelry, candles, or wellness-related items on platforms like Etsy.
5. Real Estate Investing
If you're looking for a long-term side hustle that could lead to substantial passive income, consider investing in real estate. Although the only real way of doing this "passively" and on the side is by investing in syndications, crowdfunding or REITs.
6. Per Diem or PRN Shifts
If you enjoy nursing but want more flexibility, picking up extra per diem or PRN shifts at local hospitals or clinics can offer a great way to increase your income without the commitment of full-time work.
Tips for Getting Started
- Start Small: You donât have to dive in headfirst. Choose a side hustle that aligns with your current schedule and start slowly.
- Use Your Strengths: Leverage the skills you already haveâwhether itâs nursing knowledge, people skills, or creativity.
- Budget Your Time: Be mindful of your time, especially as you manage your nursing shifts. Avoid burnout by setting boundaries for your side hustle.
- Donât Forget to Invest: Use the extra income to fuel long-term goals, like paying off student loans, building a retirement fund, or investing in other ventures.
In Conclusion
Nurses are natural multitaskers and problem solvers, making us well-equipped to succeed in side hustles. Whether you're looking to add extra income, explore a new passion, or lay the groundwork for early retirement, side hustles can offer the flexibility and financial freedom you deserve.
I am hosting a side hustle workshop next month and if you're interested, keep a lookout on your inbox for pre-sale tickets.
